Kalangita is my artist name. I am designing, painting, dyeing, felting and sewing beautiful things for women, sustainable and ecological.

As a child, I lived in Madagascar with my parents near to a textile factory. My father worked there and every Christmas he brought fabric as a present from his employer. My mother was a seamstress and embroiderer. I was already fascinated by the design of textiles back then and still do today.

But I have seen the dark side of the chemical processing and dyeing of textiles as well. I played with other children near to a river and experienced first hand how bad-smelling, colorful liquids were simply discharged there.

Today I therefore consciously do it differently: Dyeing with plants is a natural process and gentle on our environment. Naturally dyed fabric is harmonious to each other and appear vividly.

I also creating my Items using silk painting and nuno-felting. It fills me with joy to create a piece of clothing, art work – it is a versatile process from design to finished item. First I draw various designs, then I do a test pattern and a test dress made of simple fabric. If everything fits, it’s time to dye, felt or paint, cut and sew.

With so much manual work, each piece is unique and beautiful.

Kalangita ist mein Künstlername. Ich entwerfe, male, färbe , filze und nähe schönes für Frauen.

Als Kind wohnte ich in Madagaskar mit meinen Eltern in der Nähe einer Textilfabrik. Mein Vater arbeitet dort und brachte jedes Weihnachten Stoffe als Geschenk seines Arbeitgebers mit. Meine Mutter war Näherin und Stickerin.

Die Gestaltung von Textilien hat mich schon damals fasziniert und tut es heute immer noch.
Aber dort sah ich auch die Schattenseiten der chemischen Verarbeitung und Färbung von Textilien. So spielte ich am Bach mit anderen Kindern und erlebte hautnah wie übelriechende, bunte Flüssigkeiten dort einfach eingeleitet wurden.
Heute mache ich es deshalb bewusst anders: Das Färben mit Pflanzen ist ein natürlicher Prozess und schonend für unsere Umwelt.

Die Farben, die dabei entstehen sind jedoch keineswegs langweilig. Dazu kommen die Seidenmalerei und Textilgestaltung durch Nuno Filzen mit Schurwolle.
Es erfüllt mich mit Freude ein Kleidungsstück, ein Kunstwerk zu erschaffen – vom Entwurf bis zur Anprobe ist es ein vielseitiger Weg.

Zuerst zeichne ich verschiedene Entwürfe, es folgt ein Probeschnittmuster und ein Probekleid aus einfachem Stoff. Sitzt alles, geht es ans Färben, Filzen oder Malen, Zuschneiden und Nähen. Bei so viel Handarbeit gleicht kein Stück dem anderen.
